((The best of you is he who learns the Qur’an and teaches it to others)) (Bukhari)
((He for whom Allah Ta’ala intends good for; He grants him understanding in religion)) (Bukhari)
((The Scholars are the inheritors of the Prophets)) (Tirmidhi)
At Al Jamiatul Islamiyah, students have the option of undertaking either the Hifz or Alim Course, alongside their Secular Education.
The Hifz Course is undertaken with the objective of memorising the entire Qur’an. Students will devote themselves, under the patronage of a teacher, to memorise a certain portion of the Qur’an daily. Through constant progress forward and simultaneous revision of previous chapters, students gradually work towards committing all 114 Chapters to heart. The memorisation of the Qur’an marks the end of the course, the duration of which, unlike the Alim Course, is based upon the effort and dedication of the student.
The Alim course is a multi-disciplinary, multi-faceted course in the Islamic Sciences, designed to cultivate within a student all the knowledge, skills, and spiritual development necessary to understand the true soul and spirit of Islam; to practice and embody it and to lead the community by excellent example. The course consists of a comprehensive study of the Islamic Sciences, the breadth of which includes expertise in: Arabic Grammar, Tafseer (Qur’anic exegesis), Hadith (Prophetic Sciences), Fiqh (Law), Tajweed (Rules of Qura’nic recitation), Aqeedah (Islamic beliefs) Seerah (Prophetic Biography), Arabic Literature and Qira’ah (Art of Qura’nic recitation)
Courses are offered in a traditional environment with students spending approximately six hours per day receiving direct instructions from certified scholars. The course prepares students to become upright citizens with the aptitude to become Imaams, teachers, academic researchers and writers. Upon graduation, students may also choose to pursue specialized studies in Fiqh to become Mufti, Hadith to become Muhaddith, Tafseer to become Mufassir, and/or other sciences.
